POSITION TITLE: Physical Security Systems Consultant

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Owner and Principal Consultant, the Physical Security Systems Consultant
(“Consultant”) will be responsible for evaluating, specifying, and providing supporting
consulting services for the implementation of client physical security strategies and
systems that protect people, property, and assets. Under general supervision, the
Consultant will conduct physical security system assessments across access control,
detection, video surveillance systems, and integrated communications; recommend
security technologies and procedures, develop physical security system specifications,
develop physical security system diagrams and conceptual designs, and provide expert
guidance to clients or internal stakeholders. The Consultant will work closely with
leadership, facilities management, IT, and external vendors to ensure security measures
are comprehensive, compliant, and effective. This is an independent physical security
consultant position requiring specific knowledge of physical access control systems and
integrations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, the Physical Security Systems Consultant will:
• Conduct physical security assessments of physical security systems and
supporting infrastructure, and develop independent, nonbiased mitigation
strategies for a variety of facilities and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with clients to understand security needs and tailor solutions
accordingly.
• Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation for clients and
stakeholders.
• Support the development of security technical specifications, conceptual
designs, and plans for client facilities and programs, incorporating risk and
resilience analysis.
• Review physical security system design drawings against physical security system
project requirements, specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best
practices.
• Develop independent cost estimates of physical security technology solutions
• Stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices in physical
security and critical infrastructure protection.
• Provide post design support to clients for their implementation of physical
security technologies, including but not limited to owners representative
services, procurement support, project management support, quality assurance
reviews, and physical security system commissioning.
• Participate in site visits, walk-throughs, and inspections.
• Ensure compliance with client environment safety protocols.
• Maintain reliable transportation for travel to client sites (25% travel expected)
and office.
• Work remotely with a dependable internet connection and workspace.
• Attend in-person meetings at the Covington, KY office approximately once per
week, as required.
• General administrative and clerical responsibilities including responding to
emails, phone calls etc., making and printing copies and documents. Filing
paperwork.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Knowledge and skills at a level normally acquired through the completion of a
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Emergency
Management, Engineering, or a related field.
•10 or more years of experience in physical security systems specification, design,
integration, or a closely related discipline.
Preferred:
• Experience with physical access control systems specification and integration for
critical infrastructure sectors as defined by U.S. Department of Homeland
Security and federal directives.
• Recognized physical security system manufacturers certifications or certificates
of training (e.g., Genetech, Axis, Brivo, Bosch, Avigilon, etc.)
• Security industry Physical Security Professional certification, or equivalent, or
ability to obtain one within the first year (company-sponsored).
• Familiarity with security risk and resilience regulatory requirements, industry
standards, and best practices for physical security and electronic security
systems, such as the ASIS and NFPA standards.
CORE COMPENTENCIES:
• Strong understanding of physical security principles, risk assessment
methodologies, and mitigation strategies.
• Demonstrated expertise in the planning, design, and specification of integrated
electronic physical security systems, including video surveillance, access control,
and intrusion detection in accordance with industry standards and best
practices.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision and execute assigned
tasks on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English through written, verbal,
and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong ability to assess risks, analyze data, and develop practical solutions.
• Skilled in diagnosing security gaps and applying creative, effective remedies.
• Ability to work effectively across functions and with external partners/vendors.
• Able to maintains high ethical standards and discretion in handling sensitive
information.
• Capable of working in diverse environments and adjusting to changing threats or
client needs.
• Proficient with the use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications (e.g., Word,
PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) and physical security electronic security system
design tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Revit, Visio, AutoCAD, etc.)
